The Advanced Search Feature – Subscriber Lee Shares His Winning Method
It’s great to get good feedback from subscribers to Inform Racing using features such as the Advanced Search and over the years I have had some fantastic testimonials.
One came in this week from subscriber Lee providing me with a real insight into how he uses the ratings and all of the info provided to find his winners.
There are of course a number of ways to use Inform Racing and whilst the stats provide solid evidence that the top and top three rated show a consistent strike rate throughout the year, I have always told those who have asked me that I use a combination of the ratings and of the form info provided.
I don’t ‘drill down’ as much as some subscribers do but I believe you can very quickly find a number of bets for the day looking at the highlighted horses in the Master column, one or two of the system ideas provided along with the pop up boxes showing the quick view form in the simple to view format.
Lee also uses a combination of the ratings and the form info available and in a matter of minutes he can go through a race and see if there is a horse he thinks is worth a punt.
Lee’s example from Goodwood this week.
First of all here is the email he sent me:
“Following on from my last email I thought I would just give you some more feedback on how well your ratings can be as a starting point for finding decent winners. Yesterday I had a decent each way bet on Fire Fighting at 10/1 EP (Early price).
As you know I like to keep copies of my reasons for making a bet and have attached a copy of how I came to the view that Fire Fighting was a decent bet, thanks for a great site and great ratings once you get to understand them they are a fantastic tool. Feel free to use the example on the blog if you wish I always enjoy the ideas outlined on there so happy to pass on my own views if it helps.”
I have copied all of Lees example screenshots and wording below so that you can see exactly what he does and as you will see it can all be done in a short space of time, the day before racing to get the Best Odds Guaranteed prices from the Bookmakers.
Lee: “I normally start by sorting the master ratings in order and then work down.
Fire Fighting comes out top but with form figures of 757676 I would normally have discarded him but for the fact that he did a rating of 84 last time out which is in the top 3 LTO ratings suggesting he may be coming back to form and therefore required further research.
The advanced search function is an excellent tool and must be used to back up the ratings so my next step was to see how Fire Fighting did over 1m 2f (todays trip) on Good ground (todays forecast ground ) during the last 2 years.
As you can see his form reads well clocking 83+ figures each time and in between an 89 higher than any of the other runners.
I also ran the search on G/F as the ground was drying out so wanted to make sure if it quickened he would be okay. This showed that drying ground should not be a problem as he still has the joint highest rating with Best of times.
A check on the class below also showed that Fire Fighting again has the top rating of 91.
The only thing I needed to find out now was if he was handicapped to win the race and a look at his form box shows that the answer is a clear yes. He last won off a mark of 108 and today he was racing off 102 some 8lb lower plus he showed the tell tale signs last time out that he was returning to form by recording a top 3 LTO rating this was a 6th of 19 to Eradicate after being hampered early on so probably an even better run than it appeared at the time.
There was one issue I had to overcome and that was that Mark Johnston saddled 3 other runners in the race and whilst all of those had chances they were all on higher marks than their last win.
Revolutionist was 7lb higher than his last winning mark Stars of the Sea 6lb higher and Watersmeet 3lb higher so of his 4 runners only the top rated Fire Fighting was below his last winning mark and clearly handicapped to win. Adam Kirby was a good booking having previously won on the horse.
At the 10/1 early price he looked a very good each way and ended up winning a neck and job done.”
Lee had sent me another email earlier this month with example screenshots, regarding 11/2 winner Spiritoftomintoul. He keeps detailed info on all his bets so he can review and learn what is working and how he found the winners.
He got 14/1 the evening before on thats horse and again it was simple method used looking the class of the race compared to last time, the distance and the handicap mark, with all of this info available and simple to find on Inform Racing.
