Grand National circuit, 2m2f, is flat and has big fences with drop on landing side and a long run-in. Mildmay Course, 1m3f, flat with conventional fences, is sharper than hurdles course.

Aintree is the home of the greatest horserace in the world, the Aintree Grand National. Every year since 1839 forty odd runners set out to win the hearts and minds of the British public. The first meeting to be staged at Aintree was in 1829 and has gone from strength to strength over the last two centuries. Aintree is a fabulous racetrack and is kept in prime condition for the National Hunt season and in particular for the Aintree Grand National festival which is staged over three days and is second only to the Cheltenham Festival.

Ascot - F+J

 

Right-handed triangle, galloping and stiff, with few undulations, Just over 1m6f round, with 2 1/2f run-in. Straight mile and round mile. All races up to 7f on straight course.

Founded by Queen Anne in 1711, Ascot is the world's most famous racecourse and stages top quality Flat and Jump racing throughout the year. The highlight is Royal Ascot week in June, which combines tradition, pageantry, style and fashion with five days of the greatest horseracing in the world.

Ayr - F+J Left-handed 1 1/2m oval, galloping with minor undulations.

Ayr racecourse is Scotland's premier racecourse, hosting both Flat and National Hunt fixtures. On average Ayr has in the region of 25 days racing every year. Ayr racecourse is host to the Scottish Grand National, the Ayr Gold Cup and a host of other valuable races during it's 12 month racing programme.

The highlight of the jumping season is undoubtedly the Scottish Grand National, held in April, just a couple of weeks or so after the Aintree equivalent with many top performers taking in both races. None have so far emulated the great Red Rum who won both races in 1974. The 6 furlong Ayr Gold Cup, run at the Western Meeting in September is one of the most competitive sprints in the Flat Racing calendar.

Bath - F Left-handed 1 1/2m, oval, galloping, 4f run-in, bending to left, against collar throughout. Ground seldom testing.

Bath has a variety of weekday, weekend and evening fixtures. Located just two miles from the historic city of Bath, the racecourse lies on a beautiful hill-top in the Lansdown area. Carlsile - F+J Right-handed, 1 1/2m pear-shape, galloping and against collar over last 4f.

Horse racing dates back to the 16th centuary, the main race run at Carlisle are the Cumberland Plate and the Carlisle Bell races. Red Rum use to warm up for the Grand Natioal and won at the September meeting each year he won the National. This friendly course is located on the outskirts of the historic border city of Carlisle. Set in open countryside, the undulating course provides racing 10 months of the year with Jump meetings from October to April and Flat meetings between May and September.

Catterick - F+J Left-handed 1m1f oval, undulating and very sharp with handiness essential.

Enjoy a great day at Catterick racecourse and you'll get a warm Yorkshire reception. Catterick offers a has both flat and national hunt racing and is one of the few courses holding a meeting each month of the year. Cartmel - J Left-handed, sharp and undulating, with stiff fences and a 4f run-in for chases. Circuit 1m.

Horseracing has taken place on this delightful course since 1845. Cartmel is a wonderful Jumps course set in the beautiful scenery of the Lake District. There are festivals of racing over the Spring and August Bank Holidays, as well as a barbecue raceday in July. Many come for these events and make a weekend of it or even a longer holiday break. There's a great atmosphere and a traditional fun fair is just one of the added extras.

Cheltenham - J The Home of National Hunt Racing. Cheltenham is to National Hunt what Lords is to Cricket.. Hosting 16 fixtures of superb quality each year, Cheltenham is renowned for the National Hunt Festival held in March, when crowds of 50,000 gather to watch the best horses and jockeys from Britain, Ireland and Europe compete in jumping's climax of the season. Chepstow - F+J Left-handed oval, undulating, 1m7f round with 4 1/2f run-in. Races up to 1m on straight course. Tends to extremes of going.

Chepstow is situated between Bristol and Cardiff, the racecourse is easily accessible being just a few miles from the Severn Bridge. Chepstow Racecourse one of UK's finest racetracks - beautiful countryside, a friendly, charming atmosphere and an impressive racing pedigree. Chester - F Left-handed, flat, just over 1m round with short run-in. Very sharp, not favouring long-striding horses.

Chester Racecourse is a unique flat racing track, with the season running from May to September, there are 12 fabulous race meetings, including two three-day festivals - one in May and another in August. Racing at Chester's historic Roodeye course dates back to the early 16th century, making it the country's oldest racecourse. Getting a bird's eye view is an expression which comes to mind with the proximity of the horses to the course itself. It is also one of the most appealing with views of the city walls, River Dee and the Welsh Hills. At 239 yards it also provides the shortest straight in the country. During race days the town comes to a standstill as all activity is centred on the racecourse.

Doncaster Racecourse, the only racecourse in South Yorkshire, is home to the world's oldest Classic race, the St. Leger, the highlight of Doncaster's season is the four-day festival in September which contains the Group 1 St Ledger run over one mile six furlongs. The course on Town Moor dates back to 1776 and traditionally begins Britain's Flat season 'on turf' in March with the Lincoln handicap and brings it to a close in November with Tote Handicap.

Epsom - F Left-handed, U-shaped course of 1m4f with steep undulations. 3 1/2f run-in with pronounced camber, initially downhill, rising in final furlong. Races up to 8 1/2f essentially sharp, particularly on 5f track, which is the fastest in the world.

Epsom Downs racecourse is home to the Derby - the original and ultimate test over the unique mile and a half course on the first Saturday in June. Epsom is a unique course with its downhill run entering the straight which a lot of horses do not act on very well.

The Derby was up to a few years ago staged on the first Wednesday in June and provided the gentry with a day off work from the city. In recent years the derby is now held at the weekend which has boosted the crowds in recent years. It is an occasion to put on top and tails and for the ladies to don there Ascot hats prior to the Royal Meeting.

In the last couple of years during the long evening in the summer the fantastic Epsom Live! a series of four evening meetings featuring live racing and live music! has taken off bringing a new bred of customer to the track.

Exeter - J Right-handed and undulating. Stiff test of stamina. Circuit 2m.

Exeter Racecourse is the South West's most prestigious racecourse, sitting high on the top of Haldon Hill, just outside Exeter with wonderful views down towards Dartmoor.

It is the highest racecourse in the land at 850 feet, the second longest at 2 miles and has been described as not only one of the loveliest courses, but one of the fairest tracks in the country. Hamilton Park racecourse hosts Flat racing from April right through to September. Highlights include the famous Saints & Sinners Charity Evening Meeting on Wednesday 9th June and Velvet Fair Friday Evening on 16th July. Hexham - J Left-handed, severe and undulating, placing emphasis on stamina. Circuit 1m4f.

Hexham racecourse is a the top of Yarridge Heights high above the historic market town, located two miles south-west of the historic market town of Hexham. Hexham Racecourse has been the home of National Hunt racing in Northumberland for well over a century.

Huntingdon racecourse is a friendly, compact Jumps course attracting enthusiastic racegoers, many of whom come to Huntingdon to see Gold Cup winner Best Mate's annual appearance in the Peterborough Chase. Kelso - J Left-handed and undulating. Hurdles course of 1m1f is sharp, more so than 1m 3f chase track, which has 2f run-in.

Kempton (a.w) - F+J Right handed floodlit ten furlong oval for 6f, 7f, 1m, 1m3f, 1m4f and 2m races. Inner six furlong track for 5f and 1m2f races.

Kempton racecourse, the brainchild of St H Hyde a south London Businessman. On a carriage ride by the Kempton moors in 1872, he saw the land and bought it which became the racecourse soon after. London's closest racecourse is set in Sunbury-on-Thames near Richmond and stages both Flat All Weather and Jump racing throughout the year. The feature race meeting of the year is the traditional Christmas Festival on December 26 and 27 made famous by Desert Orchid winning the King George 4 times. You can see the monument built in his honour when you visit the paddock at the course. In the summer, Wednesday themed evening racing is a popular way of relaxing and unwinding with friends.

Lingfield park racecourse is one of the oldest established premier racecourses in the UK, known as 'leafy Lingfield' because of its gorgeous setting in the heart of the Surrey countryside. Lingfield Park is the only all weather Polytrack course in Britain and offers year-round Flat racing. Lingfield also has a turf track, staging Jump meetings from December through to the end of March. The new Polytrack put in over the last few years has rejuvenated the racing at the track. It is now attracting the best of Horses as the surface is so true. The Polytrack success has opened the way for more such all weather tracks to be opened around the country.

Ludlow - J Right-handed. Chase course flat with sharp bends, circuit 1m4f. Hurdles track, 150y longer, slightly undulating, with easier bends.

Ludlow racecourse is located in the picturesque South Shropshire countryside with a record of racing dating back to 1729, tradition has it that in the fourteenth century soldiers from Ludlow Castle came not only to practice archery but also to match their horses. The course retains not only its Edwardian character but also its Club atmosphere. Though now a National Hunt course, it did not have jumping until the mid-nineteenth century. There are 16 mainly mid-week jump meetings a year and this course offers an enjoyable and informal day's racing in a friendly club atmosphere.

Musselburgh racecourse is another of Scotland's finest racetracks. Musselburgh racecourse has been a venue for horseracing since 1816. Staging Flat and Jump racing throughout the year, Musselburgh racecourse now hosts 22 race days throughout the year - both Flat and National Hunt meetings. The course, on the outskirts of Edinburgh, has seen crowd sizes continually increasing over recent years. The Edwardian Stand has recently been redeveloped to enhance facilities and create a brand new entrance building.

Newbury racecourse is clearly one of the UK's premier racecourses. Newbury racecourse offers 28 days of quality racing and features one of the most important National Hunt features, the Hennessy Cognac Gold Cup held at the end of November while the summer highlight is the Juddmonte Lockinge Stakes. Along with the quality facilities Newbury Racecourse is easily accessible by both road and rail. Newbury Racecourse celebrated it's centenary year in 2005.

Newcastle Racecourse holds on two and a half meetings every month with around 32 meetings spanning both the Flat & National Hunt seasons and is one the busiest racetrack in the UK. Clearly the highlights of each season are the John Smith's Northumberland Plate three-day Festival, Beeswing Ladies Day, Pertemps Fighting Fifth Hurdle, Tote Eider, Guinness St Patrick's Day and a new meeting on Grand National Day. Wincanton racecourse is considered to have held some of the earliest steeplecase races in the UK. Competition between the hunting folk were a feature of the areas countryside and by the commencement of the 19th Century, Easter Monday at Wincanton had become an established fixture. The course at this time was at Hatherleigh Farm, South West of Wincanton town and it wasn't until 1925 that the course moved to its present location at Kingwell Farm.
