The ratings are
normally posted between 6.30pm to 7.00pm the night before
racing. On occasions they may be posted earlier and once in
a while, most often for Sunday racing they will be posted in
the morning. If you have had your pc on for a while you may
need to refresh the page to see the newly added race cards
and ratings.
Once the ratings
have been added I then input the pop up boxes which takes
about ten minutes, so if you have logged on and the pop up
boxes are not showing, then please wait a short while and
then again you may need to refresh the page.
If you are new to
using the speed ratings then I suggest that you just watch a
few days of racing to see how the ratings are performing and
to get an idea of how it all works.
All major columns,
Master, Lto, Avg and M+A have a consistent 55% plus strike
rate for the top 3 rated. In my experience the Master and
the M+A column give the better prices as the Lto and Avg are
normally more concerned with recent form which is more known
to other punters.
Accessing the cards and
information.
To access all the cards and
members information, you will have to input your passwords
for each option, however once you have done this, making
sure that you tick the box to remember your passwords, then
you will only have to do this once.
Viewing the cards.
The ideal screen resolution to
view the cards is 1280 x 800. You can change this in your
pc's Control Panel, clicking Display, then Settings.
If you don't want to or can't,
you may find that it seems as though you can only see the
first card and part of the second card of the meeting. You
will be able to see all the cards by scrolling down the page
by clicking on any part of the actual race card, then
scrolling down using the roller or ball on your mouse.
There is actually a vertical
scroll bar to the right of the page but your screen
resolution may not allow you to see it. This would normally
allow you to scroll up and down as normal to see all the
cards. To use this, there is a horizontal scroll bar at the
bottom of the page which if you scroll to the far right,
will show you the vertical bar as well as a 'quick link'
list of the days meetings.
You can use the back button on
your browser to flick back and forth through different cards
or form guides and this will keep any sorting on particular
columns that you have done. Otherwise, use the links and
re-sort the columns.
Printing the cards.
To print all the cards from one
meeting, 'right click' on the card itself and a menu should
appear. Click 'Print' from this menu and you will be able to
print all of the cards together on 2 or 3 sheets of A4
paper, depending on the number of races and runners.
Using the cards.
All the columns can be sorted
by clicking the arrows at the top of each column. The larger
one will bring all higher rated horses together at the top.
Personally, I always sort each card by the Master column.
To get an explanation of the
cards please click the 'Key to the Race Cards' link at the
top each page where a small new window will appear.
Rating details.
No ratings for any horse that
ran the day before will be shown as I do not always have
time to calculate the ratings this quickly.
All ratings that score nothing
in the event of either not finishing, (Fell, Pulled Up etc.)
or because the time was so slow will be shown as '1', the
lowest rating for a horse that finishes will be '5'.
For the flat racing cards, all
form for both all weather and turf form is mixed. The recent
introduction of the Polytrack surface at Lingfield, Kempton, Wolverhampton
(and Great Leighs) is seen by experts as to be very close to
good ground on the turf and for the ratings it makes little
or no difference to how they perform. Only Southwell's all
weather fibresand surface is different and is considered
deeper and more like good to soft ground.
For the jump races, a chase
race card will only show chase racing form and a hurdle or
national hunt flat race will show both hurdle and national
hunt flat racing form. All past form for these races in
other codes can be seen by clicking the 'form guide' link
under each card with chase form shown in blue, hurdle and
national hunt flat form shown in red.
No Hunter Chase races are shown
for all the jump racing as much of the form is from Point to
Point races and are often contested by very old horses who's
best days are behind them. They are also usually run at no
pace at all.
The Form Guide
This can be accessed by
clicking the 'form guide' link under each card. All winning
form is shown with a grey background to each line. The
columns are self explanatory apart from maybe 'OR' which is
the official rating for the horse given by the official
handicapper and 'Days' which is the number of days between
each race.
Advanced Search Feature
This is also accessed via the
link below each card and is useful for checking on detailed
form.
Races that are more reliable
In my view, all
age races, (3yo+, 4yo+), have proven to be more reliable as
there is more previous form to go on. Maiden races for 2
year olds are more reliable than maiden races for older
horses and 3 year old handicaps are the races I would avoid.
These 3 year old handicaps have many horses that have had
just three runs and are are running in their first handicap
often being raised in distance and can be called unexposed.
Full members can check out
all of the systems for
some ideas on what to look out for in certain races.
How to use the
ratings
Personally I
always sort the race cards by the Master column as this
tends to bring the better horses to the top of each card. A
key to the cards can be found on a link at the top of each
race card and the average rating for all ages and class of
race for flat rating is given on each race card too.
Check out the
Systems page to find
ideas on how to use the ratings fully.
Footnote
Do check back on results each
day for a decent trial period if you are just starting out.
It is possible that your first day or two will not be what
you may be expecting but the ratings are very consistent
over a period of time, especially from the top 3 rated
horses.
